Shirley Johanna Bohn Cameron died peacefully in the place she loved best, surrounded by those she loved. She was born into the generation that has been called the greatest any society has ever produced. She fully lived up to that honor. The life lessons that she learned, thrift, sacrifice, hard work, tenderness, mercy, grief and unconditional love, is a legacy freely given her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and will influence generations to come. This gentle humble woman, who felt inadequate in much of her service, in fact touched the lives of scores who have known her personally and many others who have felt her influence through those who love her and emulate her goodness.
She was the youngest of fourteen children born to Carl and Anna Marie Wichmann Bohn and was the last survivor among her siblings. She held a special love for all of her brothers and sisters, and their families. In her later years she drew close to many of her nieces and nephews and delighted in sharing family history, lure and even fables.
Shirley found the love of her life, Glen Richard Cameron, when she was fourteen years old. When Glen was called to Army service, they felt a strong need to seal their love and marry despite the separation of war. On March 29, 1943, they married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. They have kept their promise and for seventy-two years have been true and faithful to the covenants they made.
Of all of the things that Shirley loved in this life, her family was paramount. She is survived by her daughter Kathie James, her son Glen Richard Cameron, II and his sweet wife Melanie, and her son Howard B Cameron. She adored her ten grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren, who know and love her as GG.
There is a joyous reunion for this remarkable daughter of God as she is greeted by her husband, Glen, her daughter Sally, and a host of family and friends who have preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, January 22 at the Foothill 7th Ward, 2215 E. Roosevelt Avenue, Salt Lake City. Family and friends may attend a viewing on Wednesday, January 21 from 6:00pm -8:00pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary 255 South 200 East Salt Lake City and prior to the service from 9:30 – 10:30am.
