Shirley Peterson

Shirley Peterson of Bountiful passed away on Monday, May 23, 2011 after a brief illness. She was welcomed home by her loved ones who preceded her in death: her mother and father, LaVon Rose and Swen David Peterson, her younger brother, LaMont Riley Peterson, and her brother-in-law, George Eliason Millward. Shirley was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was born on November 2, 1932 in Warren, Utah, where she grew up with her brothers and sisters, learning a strong work ethic through their labor on the familys farm. Shirley continued her hard work in various jobs, eventually landing the career that brought her great satisfaction and from which she retired from after 26 years as an employee of Western and then Delta Airlines. Her interest in air travel began with an aeronautics class in high school. Her employment with the airlines afforded her the opportunity to travel. This included trips to Alaska, Hawaii, New Zealand, Europe, and Africa. In addition to traveling, she loved to read. Shirley enjoyed many close associations with fellow airline employees and made friendships there that lasted a lifetime. Her affection for her friends was rivaled only by the love she shared with her brothers and sisters and their children and grandchildren. Her nieces and nephews fondly recall hockey games, vacations, and holidays enjoyed with their Aunt Shirley. Shirley epitomized the role of a loving sister in the last several years of her life by rendering care and providing companionship for her elder sister Eulail. She will be greatly missed by those who survive her: Eulail Millward of Bountiful, Donald (Margie) Peterson of Parker, CO, Harold (Doris) Peterson of Phoenix, AZ, and Afton (Steve) Zoumadakis of Holladay, along with several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary at 295 N Main in Bountiful, Utah. A graveside service will take place at the Bountiful City Cemetery at 2224 S 200 W in Bountiful on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
