Shirley S. Eldredge

January 3, 1923 — October 24, 2016

Shirley S. Eldredge, age 93, from Centerville, Utah passed away Monday October 24, 2016 in Layton, Utah of natural causes incident to age. Our amazing mom, grandma and great-grandma was born January 3, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Mariel Charles Strong and Margaret Stone Strong. She spent her early years in Salt Lake City, attending Uintah Elementary. Her family moved to Logan when she was eight years old and then moved on to Boise, Idaho, where she was the Valedictorian at Boise High School and attended Boise Jr. College. Her family moved back to Salt Lake City where she attended the University of Utah and joined the Delta Gamma Sorority. She completed her education at New York University, earning a Master's in Business Retailing. After World War II, she married Donald G. Eldredge on August 2, 1950. She returned to the University of Utah and received her teaching certificate and taught school in the Davis School District until retirement in 1986. Shirley and Don enjoyed traveling around the world with family and friends, playing Bridge with their potluck group and board games with their grandchildren. Grandma always cooked delicious dinners and planned fun sleepovers for the grandchildren. She loved to read and instilled a love of reading in her children and grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Pamela Webster and son-in-law Brent, son, Michael Eldredge, five grandchildren and eight great grand-children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don and her daughter-in-law, Jani Eldredge. We will all miss her spunky personality and wise counsel. Her family would like to thank Fairfield Village of Layton and Inspiration Hospice for their loving care. Graveside services will be held Thursday October 27, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Centerville City Cemetery.
