Sonja Francom Nelson

Sonja Francom Nelson passed away at home with her husband at her side January 31^st. She was born December 13, 1937 in Payson Utah. The Daughter of John Marlyn Francom and Wanda Mary Johnson.

Sonja grew up living in Payson Utah with 2 older brothers. Her fondest memories surrounded playing with her brothers and neighborhood friends. They would often visit her grandfather’s farm and loved playing in a dug-out pit where he stored his product. She liked to chase the farm animals and in turn be chased by them.

While attending Payson High School she met Lawerence (Larry) Nelson. They were married on June 13^th, 1956, right after graduation. They were sealed for time and all eternity January 4, 1958, in the Los Angels Temple. Their many adventures took them to California, Seattle, and finally settling in Bountiful, Utah to raise their family.

Sonja and Larry were blessed with 7 children, 31 grandchildren, and 75 great grandchildren.

Her greatest devotion and love were to her family, her husband, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She and her husband’s motto is “Grow Old With Me, The Best Is Yet To Come”. Sonja loved to knit blankets for her children and grandchildren for special occasions like weddings and the birth of a baby. Everyone loved her bubbly personality.

Sonja was preceded in death by her father John Marlyn Francom, her mother Wanda Mary Johnson, her 2 brothers Sterling and William, daughter in-law Kristen Peterson Nelson and great grand-daughter Emeline. She is survived by her children Robert (Cindy) Nelson, Kellie (Dale) Harding, Jay Nelson, Denise (Scot) Irwin, Layne (Debbie) Nelson, Susie (Cliff) Layton, & Amy (Ryan) Gardner.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, February 7^th from 6:00 pm to 8pm at the Russon Brothers Mortuary at 1941 North Main St. in Farmington Utah. The Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 8^th at the Fruit Heights 4^th Ward located at 24 South Country Lane in Fruit Heights. There will be a viewing from 9:30 am to 10:30 am and the funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow at the Memorial Lakeview Cemetery in Bountiful located at 1640 Lakeview Dr.

Services will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary Live Facebook page and on this obituary page.  The live stream will begin about 10-15 minutes prior to the service and will be posted below.
