Stacey James Monson
03/18/1958 – 07/19/2012
Stacey James Monson of Salt Lake died in his sleep on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the age of 54. We will remember him for his big personality, his sharp mind and wit, his lovely tenor voice, his many talents, and his love of travelling.
Stacey was born at American Fork Hospital on March 18, 1958 to Jedda and David Monson of Lehi. Two years later, the family moved to San Jose, CA where Stacey attended Lynbrook High, excelling at scouts, the trumpet, and pole vaulting. He sang in choirs, musicals and soloed at many events. During his junior year, the family relocated to W. Bountiful, UT where Stacey completed high school at Viewmont High.
He attended the U of U for one year before finding a career as a locomotive engineer. He was elected the Secretary-Treasurer of the Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen Union, and 6 years ago became its local Chairman. As much as advocating union rights fulfilled him, Stacey’s greatest joy was being a father to James. In that role, he assistant coached T-ball and helped the Jr. Football League.
Stacey is survived by his son James Caive Monson, and James’ half-siblings Girardo (Steve) Lopez and Franciesca Luz Pinet; his parents now of W. Bountiful; siblings David Monson Jr (Centralia, WA), Kathryn Latour (Palo Alto, CA), Jedd Monson (San Francisco, CA), Karla Bickmore, Kelly Wilson, and Kristi Crusan (all of Vancouver, WA).
Funeral services will be held at the Kimball Ward, 2280 S 300 East, Salt Lake City at 11am on Sat., July 28, 2012.
