Stan & Janet Gallagher

Melvin Stanley Gallagher and Jeannette Elfreida Barthel Gallagher were two halves of one whole. Their love was everlasting. They departed this life grateful for their many blessings and for a long and wonderful life shared together. Janet, age 86, passed away in her home attended by two of her daughters on the morning of July 17, 2019. Her sweetheart and husband, Stan, age 91, followed only one day later on July 18, 2019, surrounded by loved ones. Just as they were never apart in life, they were not separated for very long in death.

Stan was born in Murray, Utah on June 19, 1928, and Janet was born in Brooklyn, New York, on August 5, 1932. The two grew up in Murray, where they met and fell in love. They were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on August 2, 1950. Stan served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1952, during WW II (Japan Occupation) and the Korean War. He attended college using the G.I. Bill. Stan continued to serve his country in a successful career of civil service at Hill Air Force Base. After retiring, he enjoyed driving a school bus for Davis School District. Janet loved being a homemaker. She excelled at it and made their home welcoming and comfortable to all. Traditions were important to Janet and she loved sharing her heritage and talents with her family. Janet, too, worked for the Davis School District as an aide on a school bus for special needs students. The students adored her and she adored them. She often made and brought items to make their journey more comfortable and enjoyable, illustrative of her compassionate and caring nature.

Stan and Janet served their community and their church and were loved and respected by many. Among their numerous callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints over the years, Stan served as Counselor in two Bishoprics, Stake High Councilman, Stake Auditor, Stake Sunday School President and Janet served as Relief Society President. One of Janet’s most beloved callings was that of guide at the Beehive House, a calling she and her sister, Esther, were fortunate to do together.

Stan and Janet Gallagher lived an inspiring love story, sharing nearly 69 years of marriage and 71 years of true love. They left a legacy of faith and provided an extraordinary example of how to achieve a successful and fulfilling marriage. For the last 57 years they resided in Kaysville, Utah, raising their children and living out their lives in the same home that has become a cherished place to return to for their posterity. Family was their priority and joy and their primary focus as they spent most of their days loving and supporting their children and grandchildren. They are survived by their 5 children and spouses; Mike (Donna), Kris (Al Wheatley), Michelle, Robyn (Terry Bagley), and Shon (Julia). They are also survived by 21 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

As in life, where Stan and Janet shared every living moment together, they will share a dual funeral to be held on Friday, July 26, at 11 a.m. The service will be held at the LDS Chapel at 331 South 50 West, Kaysville. There is no public viewing. Flowers can be sent to Russon Mortuary-Farmington, 1941 North Main St., Farmington, UT 84025.
