Stanley Roberts Muir

Stanley Roberts Muir, 90, passed away Thursday February 22, 2018, surrounded by his wife and children.  Stanley was born in September 26, 1927, to Wallace William Muir and Elizabeth Roberts Muir.  Stan and his younger brother Bill were raised in West Bountiful, Utah.  He grew up working on several farms in the family and community. They were known as hard and dependable workers and were highly sought after.  Stan loved participating in sports growing up and excelled in them.  Stan graduated from Davis High School in 1945.  Later that year he enlisted in the U. S. Navy.  He served from 1946-48 and was stationed in Japan.  After returning from Japan, he was employed at the naval Depot in Clearfield, Utah.  He attended Henagar Business College where he studied Accounting and Bookkeeping.

On April 25, 1952, he married a pretty redhead, Joan Stringham, in the Salt Lake City Temple.  They lived in Minidoka, Idaho early in their marriage working for Owyhee Farms, Inc. They returned to Bountiful Utah, where they raised their four children. He worked as an oil distributor during this time and was the Salt Lake City area supplier for Continental Oil Company and later became the owner and operator of Value Oil and Transportation.

After retiring, Stan and Joan served in the Bountiful Temple for 12 years until declining health forced them to be released.  Among his favorite activities were attending University of Utah and later BYU ball games.  He also enjoyed dining at Robintinos Restaurant where he was lovingly spoiled by Debbie and Joy. He never lost his love of farming and continued to tend his yard and gardens throughout his life. He always had extra produce to share with his family and friends.  They had many friends in the neighborhood whose relationship they cherished.

His last years were spent at the Fairfield Village in Layton, Utah, were he was a favorite of the staff. They lovingly referred to him as “Stan the Man” and enjoyed getting him to smile and laugh.  

Stan always cherished his wife, children and grandchildren.  He would never miss an important event, game, or performance that they were involved in. He was usually misty-eyed with pride at their accomplishments. He especially missed his children and grandchildren when they lived out of state and cherished their visits.  Family was always his highest priority.  

Stan was preceded in death by his parents and beloved daughter Marilyn (Paul) Jager.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years Joan, brother William Alan, daughters Paula (Robert) Brammer, Kim (Todd) Brimley and son Scott S. (Peggy) Muir.  He has 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, with another on the way.  Our family would like to thank Stan’s caregivers for their loving and gentle care, especially the staff of Fairfield Village Memory Care, Dr. Tyler Williams (personal physician), and Nina and Angie from Encompass Hospice for their valuable assistance.  Stan left a legacy of love and kindness to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Funeral services will be held Saturday March 3, 2018, 11:00 am at Russon Mortuary at 295 N. Main St. Bountiful, where friends may call Friday March 2, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm or from 9:45 – 10:45 am prior to the services.
