Stephanie “Penny” Plant Keeler
June 15, 1945-March 3, 2012
After 7 months of struggling with complications following heart surgery, Stephanie Plant Keeler, “Penny” to all who knew and loved her, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012 at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was 66. Penny was born in Logan, Utah on June 15, 1945 to Ross H. and Favell Roskelley Plant and grew up in beautiful Richmond, Utah. Penny graduated from North Cache High School with high honors, graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s in English, and was the valedictorian of the College of Humanities and Arts at Utah State University. She was awarded one of ten national Phi Kappa Phi graduate scholarships, subsequently earning her master’s degree from the University of Arizona. She married Paul Douglas Keeler on March 28, 1975 in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. She and Douglas had 3 daughters. Penny had a great love of English and reading that she lovingly shared with her daughters and with the many students she taught for over 30 years at Millcreek and Centerville Junior High Schools. We are eternally grateful for her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ that she shared in both word and deed. Penny had many health challenges throughout her life, but she fought through them with amazing faith and endurance. The last 7 months have been no different. She brilliantly passed her final test, and has joined her father, Ross, her brother, Stephen, and many loved ones who passed on before her. She is survived by her husband, Doug; her daughters, Melissa (Justin) West, Robyn (Bret) Parsons, and Kristin (JT) Clark; her eight grandchildren; her mother, Favell; her sisters Patty (Duane) Loveless, and Peg (Michael) Ivanyo. The family wishes to thank the caring people at St. Mark’s Hospital and Woodland Park Rehabilitation Center for their respectful and compassionate care for Mom, as well as extended family, friends, and neighbors who have shown such concern and love for her.
