Stephen James Simonson

Steve was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on 6 May, 1950 to Kenneth & Donnetta Simonson.  Steve was grateful for his brother Michael (Jill) Simonson and his sister Joy (Rod) Weaver who taught him about the love of family. Steve loved his siblings dearly and cherished being an Uncle to their children. After attending High School in Bountiful, he served a mission in Rome, Italy. Steve had many fond memories of his service to the Lord.  Administering as a disciple of Christ came very natural to Steve; some may say that it was in his blood, as his Grandfather was a Pastor. However, those that knew him knew that his kindness and Christlike character went far deeper than bloodline.

Steve received his Bachelor’s from Weber State, and his MBA from Georgia State University. Even in retirement Steve had a work ethic unmatched by many and longed for the critical thinking and problem solving that was found in his line of work.

Steve loved to golf and could often be found on various courses, when the weather was right. His favorite being Pebble Beach in California. To say that Steve was “the salt of the earth” would be a gross understatement; his generosity is matched only by his late wife.

If ever there was a need Steve would fill it. Only those that really know him witnessed his quiet, humble, diligent labor to fill the various and often unspoken needs of others. He was very caring man, constantly bettering the life of anyone who crossed his path. Many dreams have been fulfilled thanks to the kind support of Stephen Simonson.

Steve has many friends throughout the world and always saw the best in others. These friends were with him during his late wife’s illness and his own short illness, for which he and his family are eternally grateful. Steve married Vicki Losser in June 1989, overlooking Lake Tahoe at Heavenly Valley.  Together, Steve and Vicki achieved their greatest accomplishments with the births of Megan (Zac) Cavanaugh and Andrew Simonson.  Anyone that knew Steve could see that nothing held more of his heart than his two kids. Every labor he performed was meant to better the lives of his posterity. Often people talk of the sacrifices made in parenthood but, to Steve, the role of Fatherhood was anything but a sacrifice. His greatest joy was and still is his family. Steve had a sensational sense of humor, a charming wit, remarkable determination, and a heart of gold. His first grandchild will be born in August of this year to his daughter and her husband. Never was there a man more worthy of the title “Grandpa.” His greatest regret in life was that he wouldn’t get to hear the harmonic call of his grandchildren to their Grandpa Steve. He was a man of celestial caliber and will be missed dearly by mortality.

We thank the caring doctors, nurses, administrators and Hospice personnel who helped us through his gallbladder cancer. It is Steve’s and his family’s wish that any money normally spent on flowers be sent to cancer research.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 7th at 11AM at the Sunburn Chapel 1020 East Sunburn Lane (11600 South) Sandy. A viewing will be held for friends and family prior to the services on Saturday at the chapel from 9:30AM to 10:30AM.
