Stephen Jay Keller passed from this earthy life on May 2, 2017. Born on September 8, 1944 to George Lowell Keller and Zola Sena Bird (Munk).
He was born in St. Anthony, Idaho and raised in Price, Utah. Steve's family moved to Bountiful after he graduated high school and he spent most of the rest of his life in the Davis County area. He served a mission in the Central Atlantic States for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After he returned, he served in the Army stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. He attended Weber State University and graduated with a degree in accounting. After graduation, he worked for the Utah State Tax commission until 1978 when he began working for Raymond Keller Construction until he retired.
Steve met his wife, Maxine Godfrey, on a blind date. It must have been love at first sight as six months later, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 8, 1969. After many moves and many homes they finally settled in Woods Cross.
Steve was a hardworking man but found the most joy outside the office. He loved working in the yard and taught his children the value of hard work. As a treat, he would take his kids on a trip to the frozen yogurt shop for a “concrete” shake. When his children were young he loved to coach their soccer teams and being the head coach of the legendary Orange Crush team was one of his favorite pastimes. Vacations to Yellowstone were a yearly occurrence so he could sit by the lake and listen to the water.
Mickey Mantle was his all-time favorite…the Yankees will always be the greatest team…his love of classic cars…his old pop bottle collection…all proudly represented in displays around his home. Those who knew Steve Keller knew he was a "true blue" BYU fan, however later in his life he learned to accept and even love those who had rival color preferences.
The last few years in spite of his many medical problems he found a few new bright spots in his life such as getting to know his cousins, working in family history and genealogy indexing, and serving as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple.
Steve leaves behind his wife, Maxine Godfrey Keller, son Ryan (Sherry) Keller, and daughters Megan (Kyle) Rands, and Stephanie Keller. The people who may miss him most however are his four favorite grandkids – Parker (Rands), Jared (Keller), Zoey (Rands) and Cooper (Rands). He is also survived by his sister Beverly Keller Mulitalo and brothers Raymond (Pamela) Keller, Ronald Keller and Robert (Sheree) Keller. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Paovale Mulitalo and sister-in-law Anita Malone Keller.
Steve would be overwhelmed and amazed at the outpouring of love and compassion from family, friends and high school classmates. His family would like to express their appreciation to each and every person who has been a part of his life.
A viewing will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary in Bountiful on Saturday, May 6th 2017, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am with a graveside service following at the Bountiful Cemetery. For those who would like to participate, the family will be wearing blue and white; the colors of Steve's two favorite teams.
