Stephen Tibbs

February 11, 1951 — July 10, 2013

Bountiful, UT-Stephen Edward Tibbs, 62, passed away July 10, 2013 in the comfort of his home after suffering from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Steve was born February 11, 1951 to Lamar and Shirley Tibbs. Raised in Bountiful, he attended Bountiful High School where, as a senior, he was a starter for the 1969 state championship basketball team. He continued his basketball career at the University of Utah and Westminster College. Steve married Diana Gilmore, later divorced. Steve and Diana had four children together and he loved spending time with and being surrounded by his family. As an avid sports lover, he could often be found watching and coaching his children. Steve served as president of the Farmington Area Baseball League and was a member of the Crimson Club. A graduate of the University of Utah, Steve was affiliated with the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He operated Tibbs & Associates with his father in the insurance and real estate industry, which later merged with Bonneville Broker. Steve was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children, Jeff Tibbs (Whitney), Erin Mitchell (Blake), David Tibbs (Kristy), and Stephanie Morgan (Kristjan), along with seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Christine Lindsey. The family would like to thank all friends and caretakers who provided Steve comfort and support so he could live out his life at home.
A viewing will be held Monday, July 15, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Russon Brothers Mortuary located at 295 N Main Street, Bountiful, Utah. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 11:00 am at the mortuary with additional viewing services beginning at 9:30 am prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
