Our dear father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, Stephen Wood Call, returned with honor to his Heavenly Father on April 21, 2018. Dad had a wonderful life!
Steve was born to Henry D and Violet Wood Call on August 26, 1924, in Bountiful, Utah. He grew up in West Layton and graduated from Davis High School in 1942. Steve served aboard the USS Altamaha during World War II. Following the War, he served an LDS mission in Eastern Canada. Steve attended Utah State University and graduated with a degree in Industrial Arts. While there, he met his sweetheart, June. They were married in the Logan Temple on February 28, 1952. Steve returned to school at the University of Utah, earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. For more than 25 years, he found great joy in his work as the manager of Electrical Engineering for the LDS Church. His expertise and dedication contributed to the electrical design for 41 LDS temples, lighting of the Salt Lake Tabernacle for television broadcasts, and many other projects. Steve was an avid gardener and loved to share his harvest. He was known for his willingness to assist others with his electrical and mechanical skills.
He was a steadfast member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many church callings. Steve and June spent many of their retirement years as church service missionaries, working side by side on special assignments for Farm Management in England, at the Polynesian Cultural Center, and as the Electrical Engineer and finance clerk for the building of the Nauvoo Temple. They made a beautiful team in all they did together.
Steve was preceded in death by his sweetheart June, his daughter Susan, his parents, two brothers, and one sister. He is survived by his brother Jay; his sons, Reed and Patty (Tracy, CA), and Alan and Annie (Bountiful); 9 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren as well as his foster daughter Rena and Lambert Bennett (Farmington, NM) and their family.
Special thanks to Alan, Annie, and Chelsey Call for their loving round-the-clock care of Dad, which enabled him to continue living at home with those he loved. We will be forever grateful to you! We also extend our appreciation to CNS Hospice for their professional and loving service.
