Steve Coon passed away on the morning of January 27, 2025. He was born October 3, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Merl Edward and Laura Irene Coon.
His love of cars and all things mechanical allowed him to bring his passion to many others throughout the years. Being a mainstay of the local car shows for many years, creating friendships and rebuilding many classic cars such as his 69 Chevelle and more recently a 34 Ford Coupe. This passion for cars began with a 1957 Triumph TR3 convertible which he had as his first car. After retirement one of his great joys were his weekly meetings with friends for coffee and conversation and car show season. Both he and Shirley participated in many Cruises for Kids, Coats for Kids and special Halloween events at the car shows.
He began his working life at the ripe age of 16 years old, working at Magna’s Phillips 66 service station for Wayne Nichols. He then progressed to Kennecott where he worked as a security guard, Mag Corp and Kennecott as an EMT and then onto Union Pacific as a train conductor.
Steve married his first wife, Irene Jenson, in June 1970. Steve and Irene had 3 children together, Tori Ellen, Tia Marie and Steven Paul.
Steven then married his second wife, Shirley Launer, in October 1979. Steve and Shirley had three children to complete their family, Tonya Lyn, Desirae and Clint William.Steve is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Coon and his children, Tori (Tristen) John, Tia Marie Goodwin, Steve Paul Goodwin, Tonya (Jake) Sanchez, Desirae (Gareth) Graham and Clint Coon.
He is also survived by his sister Jackie (Don) Bird and his grand/great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah where a viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday morning 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. prior to services.
