Steven Mill Archer (Steve) passed away quietly Sunday morning February 19 at North Canyon Care Center, Bountiful after a short illness. He was born December 1958 in Laredo, Texas, the first child of Andrew and Joan Archer. After a childhood in a military family, Steve joined the Navy in 1978 where, as a Gunner’s Mate, he trained as a hydraulic systems engineer. When he left the Navy after 5 years’ service, he settled back in Utah. He married Cynthia Ann Loosle (Cindy) in 1989 and welcomed son Ryan in 1995.
After his time in the military, Steve worked in hydraulic systems repair for Spencer Fluidics and its successor companies, ending with Spencer Fluid Power when he retired in June 2022. Unfortunately, Steve was not to enjoy a long retirement. He was struck with the debilitating disease, CJD.
Steve’s loving wife Cindy predeceased him in 2017. He is survived by his son, his mother, his brother and brother-in-law, Cindy’s father and mother as well as her two sisters and two brothers. The family will hold a private burial for Steve where his ashes will be laid to rest with Cindy at Washington Heights Memorial Park.
A Celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday March 4th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 8825 South 1095 West, West Jordan, Utah. Please dress comfortably, Steve was not a dressing-up kind of guy.
Steve was a lifelong dog lover and shared his family with six different canines up to his untimely death. The family request that, in lieu of flowers, friends can make a donation in Steve’s name to the Best Friends Animal Society in Salt Lake City (bestfriends.org/salt-lake-city).
