Steven Jackson Fetzer passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on July 19, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Henry and Florence Fetzer, Steven lived a life filled with faith, family, and a profound love for learning.
As a young man, Steven served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany. Upon returning home, he married Mary Ann Hennefer in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised seven children. Steven held numerous leadership roles within the Church throughout his life, including serving as Bishop and in the Stake Presidency.
Steven also served his country as a member of the Army National Guard, where he contributed his musical talents by playing trombone in the Army Band. Professionally, he worked as an architectural designer for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His designs showcased his meticulous attention to detail and passion for creating spaces of beauty and inspiration.
A lifelong learner with an insatiable curiosity, Steven pursued further education even after retirement, earning a Master’s Degree in Psychology. He cherished reading, music, and film and had a deep appreciation for German food, art, and culture. Known for his unique sense of style, Steven was rarely without one of his many hats that reflected his vibrant personality.
Steven was preceded in death by his son Andrew Hennefer Fetzer; his parents Florence and Henry Fetzer; and siblings Lorna Monson, Joyce Powell, Norine Smith, and Kent Fetzer. He is survived by his children: Stephanie Christensen (Timothy), Thomas Fetzer (Marisa), Roy Fetzer (Stacey), Merilee Hopkin (Bryce), Dan Fetzer (Becca), and Peter Fetzer (Krista). He also leaves behind many grandchildren and one great-grandchild who will carry forward his legacy with love. Additionally, he is survived by siblings Barbara Hamblin, Grant Fetzer, Kathryn Fetzer, Brian Fetzer, Lowell Fetzer, and Pamela Hawker.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Beaumont Assisted Living and Atlas Home Health Care for their compassionate care during Steven’s final years.
Steven’s memory will live on through the lives he touched with kindness and love. May those who knew him find comfort in celebrating a life so richly lived.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday morning from 9:45-10:30 a.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah, prior to services.
