Steven Gary Hunt

Husband, father, son, brother, and friend; Steven Gary Hunt, age 59, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 14, 1955 to Gary and JoAnn Hunt. Steve graduated from Bountiful High School in 1973 and attended the University of Utah. He married his soulmate, Karen Samuelsen Hunt, on March 3, 1977 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and together they raised two daughters whom he loved "more than all the stars."

Steve had a successful career as a commercial photographer, specializing in photo-digital illustration, and was a beta-tester for Adobe Photoshop. He worked for The Image Bank and Getty Images. A partial list of his clients include: Eli Lilly, IBM, Newsweek, Omni, Novell, Panasonic, AT&T, Intel, CBS, Citibank, ABC Television, Apple, Warner Brothers, General Electric, Estee Lauder, Sony, Motorola, Kodak, 3M, Bell Labs, and Time Inc.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Gary Grant Hunt. He is survived by his wife, Karen Hunt of Santa Fe, NM. His daughters, Sarah Hunt of Portland, OR and Emily Hunt of Santa Fe, NM. His mother, JoAnn Hunt of Spokane. WA. His siblings, Greg Hunt and Kathryn Show of Seattle, WA and Michelle Cleland of Spokane, WA. And many, many treasured friends.

But a traditional obituary can't begin to describe the man that my father was at his core. He had the heart of an artist – sensitive, introspective, passionate, and curious. He loved mother nature and fought to protect her. The coyotes were his brothers. The canyons of Southern Utah were his temples. The constellations were his scriptures. The desert was his home.

He lived for yearly fly-fishing trips on the Deschutes and Klickitat rivers with his brother and father, and daily walks with my mom. He loved to travel, especially to Kona, Hawaii, and logged 187 scuba dives. He grew the best roses on the block and the best Early Girl tomatoes in the neighborhood. He was known for his grilled pizza, homemade pasta, and green chile stew, and when he laughed it was high-pitched and unrestrained.

Above all, he loved his family and friends. He adored his parents and grandparents. He thought that his brother was the funniest person in the world. He believed that my mother was the most beautiful woman in any room. And despite his numerous accomplishments, he was most proud of being a dad to two girls. If asked to sum up his life in one word, I'm certain that my father would choose "blessed."

He always knew when the Perseids meteor shower would be at its peak – August 12th and 13th this year, dado. We will look for you among the stars.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 Main Street Bountiful UT 84010. A graveside service at Lakeview Cemetery will follow at 12:00 PM.
