Steven Leonard Olson (80), beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, returned peacefully to his Heavenly home on September 23, 2023.
Steve was born on January 14, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Lester G. Olson and Reva P. Olson. Growing up, he was a proud Eagle Scout, a two-time state wrestling champion, a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and graduate of the University of Utah.
Steve married his college sweetheart, Susan P. Olson, on March 18, 1965, and together had five children (one daughter and four sons). He believed strongly in both work and play, spending countless hours with his family working in the yard, snowmobiling in the mountains, and waterskiing at any lake he could (especially Lake Powell).
He spent his professional career working for his father’s business, the Les Olson Company, as well as owning two of his own companies in the telecommunications industry. During his post-retirement years, he worked as a Hospice chaplain.
Steve was a deeply devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, serving in many positions in his church such as a primary teacher, young men’s leader, and twice as a bishop. One of his greatest honors was serving a two-year mission with his wife in Sydney, Australia.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and two of his sisters. He is survived by his wife, Susan, his sons Jeffrey, Shane (Marcy), Scot (Tiffany), Bradley (Kristine), daughter Stephanie Reeder (Jacob), five brothers, four sisters, 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the LDS meeting house at 351 Lofty Lane, North Salt Lake, Utah, 84054. Doors will open to the public at 10:30 a.m. and services will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a luncheon afterward.
