Susan Mary Haslam Forbes was born on June15, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah and passed away on August 15, 2023, after a long battle with illness. Susie was the third of eight children born to Scott and Muriel Haslam of Bountiful, Utah. She graduated from West High School in 1969. There she met the love of her life, Norman Forbes. The two were married on March 6, 1970, and spent the next several years traveling for Norman’s work with the Air Force. Susan wanted more than anything to be a mother. After many disappointments and trials, Susie and Norm were blessed with a long-awaited child, Jason Scott Forbes, on July 26, 1978. They were over the moon.
Susie loved her family fiercely. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, mother-in-law, and grandma. She loved working with children and spent many years working as an aid in the school system both in Utah and in Germany while Norm was stationed there. Susie was an incredible artist and seamstress. She made the most wonderful cakes for family and friends and freely shared her talents with those around her. She loved fishing, crafting, sewing, camping, and spending time with her loved ones. She had a fantastic sense of humor and kept us laughing right to the end. Susie was a champ. She bore her trials with grace and kept a positive attitude throughout her life.
Susie was married to her sweetheart for 53 years. They were sealed for all time and eternity on May 10, 2005, in the Bountiful, Utah Temple – something both she and Norman treasured.
Although she wanted an army of children and grandchildren, Susan was only blessed with one of each. In 2011, her sweet grandson Aiden James Forbes made an appearance and was instantly the light of his grandma’s eye. Susie adored her little “bubba” and spoiled him accordingly. The two shared a special relationship that Aiden will carry throughout his life.
Susie is survived by her husband, Norman J. Forbes; son Jason S. Forbes (Lisa); grandson Aiden J. Forbes; Mother Muriel Haslam; sisters Linda (Gary) Spillman, Debbie (Cory) Griffiths, Christine Haslam; brothers Bruce (Shauna) Haslam; Brian (Pam) Haslam, John (Kris) Haslam, and Danny (Donna) Haslam; along with a multitude of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved father Scott Reed Haslam.
