Susan Penman

Memphis – Susan Clarece Penman, age 56, passed away on December 20, 2011 at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, TN, after suffering a stroke and related complications.

Susan was born in Rigby, ID on September 13, 1955 to Alan and Sheron (Eckersell) Muncey. Susan grew up in Bountiful, Utah and graduated from Bountiful High School in 1973 which is also where she met and married her high school sweetheart Steve Penman. They were married on November 27, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple and set out to start their life together in Twentynine Palms, CA where Steve had been stationed with the Marine Corps. They returned to the Bountiful area in 1976 with daughter Crista who was then followed by two sons, Nickolas and Tyler. In 1987 the next adventure began when Steve’s job took them to Memphis, TN where they raised their family and made their home.

During the years Susan worked in a variety of jobs ranging from administering low-income housing programs for Davis County government to her years in Memphis working in the office of a large Pediatric organization. However, if you asked Susan what her most significant work had been she would quickly turn to raising her children (and grandchildren) and her work over all the years with the LDS church in a variety of positions including Primary Presidency and Young Women President.

She so loved working with the children and young women. Her genuine love and caring for each of them made her a natural teacher, leader and friend to everyone. The outpouring of condolences from so many who speak of how she influenced their lives is testament to that. The same love and caring was always there for her family and friends as well. Always striving to make every individual seem special and always finding ways to demonstrate her love.

She will truly be missed by so many.

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Steve, of Germantown, TN; daughter, Crista (Ephraim) Olson of North Salt Lake; son Nickolas Penman of Collierville, TN; son Tyler Penman of Germantown, TN; father, Alan (Laura) Muncey of Layton, UT; mother, Sheron (Don) Olson of Bountiful, UT; brother, Ron (Janet) Muncey of West Jordan; sister, Marilyn Muncey (Dale) of West Jordan; sister Colleen (Todd) Jones of Bountiful; brother, Roger (Jill) McKenzie of Apex, NC; sister, Colette (Matt) Bundy of Mtn Home, ID; sister, Shelley (Bryan) Donnelly of Atwater, CA; and her four beautiful grandchildren Izzy, Chloe, Brenner and Brynlee who had become the center of her universe.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Foxhill Ward, 200 South Eagleridge Dr. North Salt Lake, UT. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:45 – 10:45. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
