Suzanne Archibald

Our sweet wife, mother, daughter, and sister, Suzanne Allen Archibald, age 48, passed away peacefully at home in Bountiful, Utah on December 17, 2011. She had suffered a lingering health problem recently suspected of cancer and scheduled for diagnostic confirmation tests on Monday. Friday she said she would rather die than go through bone marrow testing or chemo. Ironically that was the case. Suzanne was born October 25, 1963 at Carson City, Nevada to Royce H. and Mardette R. Allen. She was a delight in our lives, the second of five children with two brothers and two sisters. Suzanne attended elementary school in San Diego, California and Alexandria, Virginia. Then moving to Centerville, Utah she attended Jr. High, completed LDS Seminary, graduated from Viewmont High School, and went on to Utah State University. She changed her name each year Sue, Suzie, Suzy, Suzanne, Suzanna etc-most of us know her as Sue. On November 2, 1984 she married Alfred Russell Archibald of Bountiful, Utah and was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on November 2, 1985. Russ was her best friend, supporter, and care giver. He was at her bedside when she passed away. She adored her two children Alisha Ann and Dallen Burdette encouraging them to excel in school, young women, and scouts. Grades and high mark papers were hung in the hallway. She pinned on Dallens Cub Scout awards, his Arrow of Life, and his recent badges in scouting. She framed Alishas young women awards, Honor Society Certificates, and Media Scholarship hanging them in their Hallway of Fame Suzanne grew up loving sports, music, friends, and family. She was the heavy hitter on little league ball team, one of the tallest players for church and school basketball, enjoyed church volleyball and softball, competed in high school tennis, and taught swimming lessons. She learned to downhill ski and loved the slopes of Brighton and Solitude. When she could no longer compete in sports she served as ward athletic director and coach. She loved to sing and learned to play the piano as a young girl. She served as pianist for primary and seminary. Recent hours were spent playing at home and she loved duets with her mom. Suzanne taught Primary, served as Compassionate Service leader for the women in her ward, and was later called to the Relief Society Presidency, a job she loved. She cherished her experiences traveling with family – venturing to such places as Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, Spain, France, Luxemburg, and Germany. A cruise in the Pacific a year ago was a highlight. Her annual trips to Lava Hot Springs staying in the family condos were a high spot each year that she never missed. She understood car engines, could diagnose problems, and enjoyed Russells fix-up hobby although she finally limited him to one clunker in the driveway at a time. She loved her home and fixing it up as best her health would allow. Suzanne is survived by her husband, children, parents, and siblings; Devin B. Allen of Woods Cross, Utah; Ian R. Allen of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Wendi Allen of Centerville, Utah; and Dixie Allen of Layton, Utah. We will miss you Sue, we love you, and well see you on the other side! Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Bountiful 19th Ward Chapel, 1540 North Orchard Drive (400 E.). Friends may call at the Russon Bros. Mortuary, 295 N. Main St. in Bountiful on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. or at the church on Thursday from 9:30-10:45 prior to the services. Interment will be at the Centerville Cemetery.
