Suzanne Schreiber

August 13, 1936 — July 31, 2019

Suzanne Smith Schreiber passed away in her home on July 31, 2019.

She was born in her grandmother’s home August 13, 1936 in Farmington, Utah to Henry Orville Smith and Elizabeth Udy Smith Jackman.  She was the second of three children.  Her family moved to Los Angeles, California in 1941 where her father found work.

Suzanne had a fun, loving, adventurous personality that was infectious to those around her.  She was a master at making friends and had many life-long friends.  She graduated from Ben Franklin High School in Los Angeles where she was the co-captain of the drill team, held leadership positions in student government, and received high honors for her grades.

Suzanne made a quick post high school graduation trip to Hawaii that turned into 17 years.  While there, she found success in the restaurant business, and discovered and developed her talent of designing high-end jewelry.  She married Edward Joseph Schreiber (later divorced) and welcomed her only daughter, Stephanie Suzanne into her home.  She returned to Utah a few years later to be with family and to raise Stephanie.  She worked at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City for many years, where she was the head accountant.  Later in life, she worked at the Bountiful Shopko as a cashier, until it’s closing. There she became friends with many.  She was a very dedicated, responsible, dependable, and detail-oriented employee.

Suzanne loved to cook and try new recipes.  She was born to shop and spent hours browsing and researching for the best deals.  She had many prized possessions. She loved her flower garden and feeding birds with her homemade roasted seeds and hummingbird food. She loved animals and was a magnet to stray cats who she would feed on her back porch.  She loved plants and was a natural green thumb.

Suzanne loved to travel by airplane and looked forward to her return trips to the one place on earth she felt at home…Hawaii, her paradise.  She loved M&M’s, both the candy and especially her four grandchildren who called her “Grandma Suz”, and who she loved to shop for and be entertained by.  She was loved by many and will be missed.  “Aloha Oe”!

Suzanne is survived by her daughter, Stephanie (Rick) Hawley, her grandchildren, Mitchel (Olivia), Megan, Malia, and Miles.  She is also survived by her younger brother, Franklin O. (Patricia) Smith, and her nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her older sister, Betty Lou Ellis, and niece, Suzanne Elizabeth Smith Rognon.

Many thanks to her dear friend and neighbor, Dana Dovenbarger, for her weekly visits and checking in on Suzanne during her last few years. Stephanie could not have done it without her.

Graveside services will be held on her birthday, Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Farmington City Cemetery, 500 South 200 East.
