Tammy Taylor Mitchell
1957 ~ 2016
On December 22, Tammy Taylor Mitchell ended a 30 year battle with cancer. She was born October 30, 1957 to Carlos Vern Taylor and Valerie Jean Taylor. Early on she dreamed of becoming a cowgirl and a rodeo queen. These dreams set a course for her future, and shaped Tammy into a talented horse woman. The Taylors enjoyed hunting, fishing, equine sports, and spending time as a family.
In 1978 Tammy became Miss Rodeo Utah. It is a title she took very seriously and worked hard throughout her life to embody. She became an ambassador for a way of life by teaching riding lessons, masterfully training horses, mentoring youth, and sharing her knowledge with all who sought it. During her years as an instructor she trained multiple other Miss Rodeo Utah’s and one Miss Rodeo America. She also trained many children and adults alike to ride horses and find their best potential in the arena and anywhere else they chose to succeed.
She met her sweetheart, best friend, and soulmate Jeff Mitchell while they were both on the rodeo trail. They shared a passion for great horses and had many similar interests. Their friendship set them up for a beautiful life together. They were married on September 8, 1980.
Jeff and Tammy raised two children. They loved being parents and often said it is what they are most proud of.
Tammy loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She and Jeff were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity on February 2, 1994. Tammy held many church callings and touched many lives in service. She also had many talents that included baking, cake decorating, sewing, writing, speaking, sharp shooting, and lighting up a room. She was our Christ-like example, matriarch, and friend. She taught all who knew her how to love, be loved, and how to reach inside to find their best potential. We are all proud of the life she lived and are truly grateful to have been a part of it.
Tammy is survived by her husband Jeff Mitchell, parents Carlos and Valerie Taylor, siblings and spouses; Judy and Paul Madsen, Kenny and Janae Tayler, Carl and Peggy Taylor, her daughter and son in law Nichole and Jeremy Houston, her son Nathen Mitchell and her grandchildren Mason, McKynlee and step grandchildren Wyatt, McCoy, Ali Joe and Jaydee.
We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to a special friend of the family, Carol Illing for her countless hours of love and dedicated service on behalf of Tammy and family.
