Terry James Davis, age 56, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 16, 2024. He left us unexpectedly, but he will not be forgotten.
Terry was born December 14, 1967, a healthy baby boy to Janice Stout and Dennis Davis, in South Davis Hospital in Bountiful, Utah.
He attended Pocatello High, and Palmetto High in Miami, graduating in 1985. He went on to be a very skilled and successful commercial painter. Terry was the family handy man. Something broken? Terry could fix it. He loved to tinker and teach others the things that he had learned.
Terry had a loud, smart, and hilarious personality. He had a way of turning any bad situation into a something to laugh about. His one liner jokes were often the highlight of the night. He was caring and kind, taking care of his grandmother, and his mother most recently, making sure they had everything that they needed.
The biggest passion in his life was music. From an early age, he would throw radios up on his shoulders and learned to play guitar. He had a metal band, called Deaf Child, in the 90s. They were so loud and wild that they were sent to perform out at the Saltaire! He was an amazing guitar player, and instilled the true love for music in many of his family members. That love of music will live on through those he left here. Terry loved video games. Especially horror video games. We will miss his stories and thoughts about the latest games.
Terry was an amazing cook and would experiment with different spices and flavor profiles. From Thanksgiving to outdoor cookouts, his meals were always something to look forward to. He also loved NASCAR, and he would record every race. The only reason he didn’t watch them live, is he wanted to be able to skip the ads! He loved to talk about his favorite shows; Rick and Morty, Family Guy, and Good Mythical Morning.
In 2010, he met his partner, Ron Johnson. They spent 14 years together, and helped each other through the ups and downs of life. Terry was a part of the bear community of Salt Lake City, so much so that we nicknamed their area of the house “the bear cave”. His decorating further solidified this name.
Terry loved cats. Terry had many cats, but Gertty had his heart. His last furball passed in 2018 and he kept her ashes close to him always. He believed that cats knew more than we do, and always was so kind and sweet to them.
Terry is preceded in death by his grandmother, Leslie L. Stout. He is survived by his mother and father, Janice M. Stout and Dennis Davis; his partner Ron Johnson; his siblings Kimm Jones and Troy (Theresa) Davis; and his nephews, Eddie Jones, Jace (Krista) Davis, and Dusty (Michelle Rubio) Davis.
