Terry Patrick Smith was welcomed into the home of Sid and Monica Smith on Dec. 8th, 1943. After a brief battle with cancer, he passed suddenly in the early morning hours of Nov. 24th, 2016 with his loving wife of nearly 52 years, Sandra Kay Smith (Barker), at his side. Terry and Sandra were married on April 10th, 1965 and sealed in the Salt Lake City temple on Nov. 25, 1968. Their children, Dan, Tim, Ann-Rachel (Rosier), Patricia (Larsen), Shannon Smith, and Heather (Matthews) have been, and always will be the beneficiaries of their hard work and example of love and cooperation.
Terry’s love of music was passed down to his children and grandchildren and he always enjoyed the chance to perform with or watch them perform in any form or fashion. He was an accomplished pianist and singer that readily shared his talent with family, church, and community. His love of music was rivaled only by his love of celebrating any holiday in the grandest of ways. He will be fondly remembered for his firework displays, home and yard décor, and festive wardrobe. He was particularly fond of St. Patrick’s Day and celebrated with all the enthusiasm of a true Irishman despite his predominantly Polish heritage. Early years with his family were spent road tripping as far and wide as the family vehicles would carry them, often with no specific destination in mind. He was also an avid sci-fi fan splitting his loyalty easily between the Star Trek and Star Wars franchises and passing that passion on to a number of his children.
Terry spent his life in the service of others laboring faithfully as a High Priest in the LDS Church and in The National Guard during the Vietnam era. Thankfully, the war came to a close before his unit could be activated. Whether serving his country or his God, his family always came first. His testimony of Jesus Christ and a love of holidays, music, and the open road left a lasting legacy of memories for all that knew him. His family circle included brothers Brad, Matt and James, sisters Stacey and Tina, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. His later life was spent caring for and in companionship with his in-laws, Ralph and Verleen Barker in Centerville, Utah.
Terry spent his professional career with the Union Pacific Railroad and retired as a lead electrician after 35 years spent between Utah and Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, a brother, and two grandsons. He is survived by his wife, three brothers, two sisters, six children, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Verleen Barker and his brother-in-law Gary Barker. Services will be held at the LDS Ricks Creek chapel, 1461 N. Main, Centerville, Utah on Dec. 3rd at noon with a viewing from 11:00 to 11:45. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery, 1640 E Lakeview Dr, Bountiful, UT.
