Terry Neal Tate passed away quietly at the age of 85 after a quick decline in his health and leaving a huge hole in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Terry was born in Tooele, Utah, as the first child and only son of John (Shag) Wendall & Gail Beecher Tate.
Learning the value of hard work beginning at the young age of 13, Terry would often open the family Tate Confectionary business prior to the school bell ringing. He recalled fondly of the memories made during this time. At the age of 14, Terry’s life and health were altered forever when he was riding in the backseat of his uncle’s vehicle and a horrific accident occurred leaving him in the hospital for 28 days due to injuries that stayed with him throughout his life.
Graduating from Tooele High School in 1955, Terry soon married his high school sweetheart Karen Kirk for time and all eternity as they began their journey together by moving to Bountiful, Utah. By 1964, Terry had started his own plumbing contracting business, Tate’s Plumbing. Working long days to support his business and growing family, Terry relied on and was highly regarded for his integrity amongst his peers and associates.
As an active sportsman and athlete, Terry and his family could often be found outside camping, hiking, snowmobiling, golfing or enjoying the sunshine from his boat, and water skiing with family and friends. Whether he was hunting or attending a sporting event Terry loved the outdoors and enjoyed recalling his many adventures. Never one to slow down after retirement, Terry found joy in the long drives searching to create the perfect walking stick. He loved the gospel and cherished his opportunity to serve in various callings.
Terry leaves behind his beloved wife Karen Tate, daughters DeeAnn Hinajosa & Jill (Robert) Burt, sons David (Tina), Mike (Sherrie Lou), Mark (Suzanne), many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, sisters Carolyn Dow, and Tamra (Russell) Peterson. Preceding him in death was his son James Tate, son-in-law Bruce Hinajosa, and sister Peggy Smith.
