1936 Sandy 2023

Thelma Ethel "Sandy" Terry Syversen

October 22, 1936 — March 13, 2023

Salt Lake City, UT

Our loving mother, grandma, great-grandma and friend gained her angel wings on March 13th, 2023.

Mom was born in Murray, Utah, on October 22, 1936, to Thelma Van Wagoner Witt Terry and James Garfield Terry. She grew up on a farm in Draper, Utah. She attended Draper Park School and graduated from Jordan High School. She moved to Salt Lake City when she was 17 years old and worked at Utah Wholesale Grocery where she met her sweetheart, Richard Syversen. On September 1, 1955, they were married in the Salt Lake City Temple and sealed for time and eternity.

Mom was a busy bee and homemaker. She made wonderful homemade food for her family and everyone looked forward to eating her chili and scones on Halloween. She spent hours raising, tending and loving her grandchildren. Her family was her greatest treasure. She lived by the slogan “there is always room for one more” and the open-door policy at her home welcomed many friends and visitors.

Mom was the “ultimate church lady” and loved spending her time serving others and loving them unconditionally. She faithfully served in many callings as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including: Relief Society president, scout leader, primary teacher and ministering sister.

She is survived by her children: Char (Ken) Copier, LaDean (Dale) Copier, Darryl Syversen, and Julie Coles; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, brothers Chad Terry and Joel Terry, sister-in-law Ruth Syversen, and brother-in-law Robert Giuliani. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, parents, and siblings: Alta, Grant, Dean, Colleen and Van, and many loving brother and sister-in-laws.
