Theodore Rawlingson Martin II

December 5, 1944 — February 18, 2025

Theodore Rawlingson Martin II (Rawlin) passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 5, 1944 to Theodore R. Martin and Ruth Lockhead Martin. He married Jolene Tingey on March 29, 1997 in the Bountiful Utah Temple.

Rawlin grew up in Bountiful, Utah. He attended Bountiful High School. He graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in education. He taught math for 30 years at Viewmont High School until he retired in 1998. He then worked as a computer programmer for Albertson’s.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1966-1970. He was apart of the Air Force Communication Squadron stationed in Pakistan.

Rawlin enjoyed many things. He loved being out in nature and would go on long walks and hikes in the mountains. He took pride and joy in working in his yard and making it look amazing. He worked in the Family History Library in Layton where he helped many people with their Family History. He also served in his stake as the Indexing Director where he learned to love indexing and arbitrating and he passed that love onto many others.

He was happiest when he spent time with kids helping them with math. He was a substitute math teacher for the high schools in his area up until just 3 years ago. He spent many hours tutoring his grandchildren, their friends and neighboring kids with their math assignments. He always had a smile on his face and a “way to go” fist bump when he found out their test scores. Many of his grandkids would say that the only way they made it through math was with grandpa’s help.

Three years ago Rawlin suffered a life changing illness which left him requiring full-time care. Jolene has spent those three years sacrificing her own needs and caring for Rawlin so lovingly and completely, allowing him to be able to remain in his home where he wanted to be. As a family we are in awe and humbled by the sacrifice she showed him.

He is survived by his wife, Jolene Tingey Martin; His children, Matt (Katie) Martin, Dan (Trish) Martin, Ashley Martin, Zack (Julie) Martin; His step-children, Derek (Tara) Nelson, Angela (Russ) Porter, Amy (Dave) Morris, Spencer (Emily) Nelson; His brother, Melvin (Paula) Martin; His sister-in-law, Shannon Martin; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore R. and Ruth Lockhead Martin and his brother Mike Martin.
