Born near Daniel, Wyoming, Mother grew up on a small ranch and attended a one-room school with her siblings and a couple other children.  She often talked about walking to school on the banks of a river, the cold snowy winters in Wyoming and the small cabin her father added onto and remodeled to make it into their family home. The family moved to Kemmerer, Wyoming, during her high school years.
She graduated at age 16 in 1937 from Kemmerer High School and was fortunate to be able to receive a one-year scholarship to Stevens Henager College in Salt Lake.  There she learned skills that helped throughout her career.   Her early married life started in Kemmerer, where her 4 children were born.  A house fire in the early 1950’s prompted a move to Salt Lake City where she single-handedly raised her children to be successful adults, something she was extremely proud of.  She moved to Bountiful in 1995, a few years after retiring. She worked all her life:  KALL Radio, Capitol Chevrolet, the State of Utah and the Federal Government from which she retired.  In between working and raising kids and caring for a house and yard, she worked on and
honed skills in painting, needlepoint and ceramics. She enjoyed traveling and reading.  She spent many hours researching genealogy. Over the years she learned how to play the piano, organ, violin and mandolin. She had many collections: dolls, plates, bells, books, statuettes of different kinds of animals and souvenirs from traveling.

Visitors needed to plan on a tour as she loved to show off her collections. She was an excellent bridge player and bowled until close to age 90. The ball went down the alley at only 5 miles an hour but she often got strikes and spares. Even so, her competitiveness always made her work harder because she felt her average score should be higher. She loved words and won a state spelling bee when in middle school.  Even as her memory began to fade, words came to her mind without hesitation, and she often asked others if they knew how to spell them and their definitions.  Sometimes the spelling was secretly looked up on the phone.  She was always right!  Fiercely determined and independent, being on her own for close to 60 years, she was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. And as she became less able to do the things she had always loved to do, she was grateful for visits and help from family but always asked what she could do for someone else to make their burdens lighter.  The heavens must think December is a special month because 3 angels from her family went home: December 4, our mother; December 9, her sister Georgia in 2006, and December 12, their mother, in 1986.  She was the middle child of 5 but her stay on this earth was longer than any of them. Much time has passed for her without any siblings or parents.
The reunion of the family will be glorious.  She will be able to stand up straight and tall again, hear and see details vividly, walk (and bowl) with energy, and have her memory at full strength. How wonderful for her!
Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Barton Creek Ward, 640 South 750 East, Bountiful, where a viewing will be held 1 hour prior to services. Interment- Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah
