Thomas Floyd Slater

January 29, 1940 — December 15, 2019

Thomas Floyd Slater of Centerville, Utah passed away on December 15, 2019, at the age of 79. He was born in Logan, Utah on January 29, 1940. He was the oldest child of
Floyd Harrison and Virginia Budge Slater. He had one sister, Virginia Diane Slater of Layton, Utah, and one brother, James Robert Slater of McHenry, Illinois. He had a strong pioneer heritage. Thom lived his early years in Parowan, Cedar City, Heber City and Ogden, Utah. As a Boy Scout he earned the Eagle Scout Award and participated in the National Jamboree at
Irvine Ranch, California. He attended Polk Elementary School, Central Junior High School, Weber High School, Ogden High School, and graduated from South Cache High School in 1958.
In 1961, he married Marlene Seamons in the Logan LDS Temple. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in 1962 from Utah State University and a Master's degree in 1970 from the
University of Wisconsin.
He worked in natural resources management in the American West for four Federal agencies: Forest Service, Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation, and Bureau
of Land Management.
He served in many LDS church positions including Scout Master, Elder's Quorum President, Ward Assistant Executive Secretary, High Priest Group Secretary, and
Bountiful Temple Ordinance Worker.
His favorite activities were spending time with his wife and family, fishing at Star Valley (Wyoming), boating on Bear Lake, visiting scenic and wild places, reading, creating stained glass art, and enjoying family activities at the Bear Lake cabin. He was a creative person who could build or fix a lot of different things and always had projects to keep him busy.
Thom and Marlene are the parents of five children: Deborah (Todd) Bishop, Douglas Floyd (Neena) Slater, Karen (Wayne) Kidd, Kaylene (Brian) Campbell, and Janette (Jim)
Aleson. They have 18 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Douglas, his brother Robert, and his son-in-law Mark Simmons.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 21, 2019 at the Centerville 6th Ward, 900 South 400 East. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful and Saturday morning 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. prior to services. Burial is in the Centerville City Cemetery.
