Thomas Reeve

March 14, 1937 — May 19, 2011

Thomas Andrew Reeve, 74, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 19, 2011, due to complications of pneumonia while recovering from a stem cell transplant for Multiple Myeloma. He was born March 14, 1937, the first child of Andrew and Ruthell Stanworth Reeve of Hurricane, Utah. Growing up, Tom spent many hours at the family farm. He learned the value of hard work, which was taught by example to his children and grandchildren throughout his life. Tom served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii from 1958-1960. On September 14, 1962, he married the love of his life Colleen Leonard of Farmington, Utah, in the Logan LDS Temple. They were blessed with two wonderful children whom he was very proud of. He graduated from Hurricane High School, and then attended Utah State University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Horticulture, and a Master of Science Degree in Vegetable Production, and Agronomy. Tom had a lifelong career in agriculture, research, and education that took the family to Idaho, Nevada, and Utah. While working for Utah State University, he was a County Extension and youth agent in Sanpete County, where he especially loved working with the youth in 4-H. He transferred to Box Elder County where he worked closely with the fruit and onion growers, dairymen, and home gardeners. Throughout his life he served faithfully in numerous callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. Tom had a strong testimony, and loved reading the scriptures. He had a great love for the temple and the saving ordinances that the Gospel provides, and enjoyed serving as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple with Colleen for many years. After retiring in 2002, Tom and Colleen moved to Farmington where they had met 40 years earlier, and built a home. Together they carefully planned and landscaped their yard which he cared for using the knowledge and skills he had learned throughout his life. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren sharing the special events in their lives. He was an avid reader, and a fan of the Utah Jazz. The family wishes to offer special thanks to the Huntsman Cancer Institute BMT clinic, and to the BMT inpatient hospital for the wonderful care given to him; also to family, neighbors, and members of the Farmington 15th ward for all their love, support and prayers. He is survived by his wife, Colleen; and their children, Kevin L. (Janet Y.) Reeve; Kathleen Reeve; five grandchildren; Cameron, Nathan, Austin, Tyler, and Laurie Ann. He is also survived by his sister Mary Lou Reeve; and brothers James R. (Elaine S.) Reeve; Ronald L. (Kristine G.) Reeve. He is preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011, at the Farmington North Stake Center, 729 W. Shepard Lane, Farmington. Family and friends may visit Friday evening, May 27, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 North Main, Farmington, or Saturday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Stake Center.
