Our loving, classy, sassy mother, wife, sister, aunt, Nanny, and friend passed away peacefully at her home on April 14, 2023 at 92 years old.
Trudie was born February 22, 1931 in Logan, Utah to A. Alton and Louise Hoffman. She was the oldest sibling to brothers, Alton and Robert and sister, Carol. Trudie was raised on the farm, but always knew she was made for the city.
Trudie attended school in Cache Valley where she had to get up early and feed the chickens before heading off to class. Her father taught her to work hard and from her mother she learned to cook well.
While at Utah State she met her eternal companion, Ralph Downs. They were married in the Logan Temple on Dec 15, 1950. Upon his graduation they moved to California for Ralph to finish Physical Therapy school at Stanford University. Soon after graduation they moved back to Bountiful where Ralph opened his private practice and Trudie held down the fort with five active children going in all directions for sports, activities and hobbies.
Trudie made friendships she treasured and lasted a lifetime. She was considered a second Mom to many kids in the neighborhood and friends of her children.
She was very creative and had a passion for floral arranging, cooking, entertaining at Bear Lake, bird watching, and was baseball Mom extraordinaire.
Trudie was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her Heavenly Father and made sure her children knew that her covenants were kept and her convictions were strong.
Trudie was quick witted and as the years went on, her sense of humor and lack of filter always left those in the room with a smile. She was a giver and loved to devote her time to those who needed it. She was always happy to see you and a short visit would turn into hours of storytelling and laughter.
Our Mom/Nanny will be sorely missed, leaving a definite void in our family.
Trudie is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, parents, brothers and their spouses, and brother in law Lynn Ricks. She is survived by sister, Carol and Jerry Harrison, children, Dave and Marcie Downs, Janet Adamson, Peggy and Paul Pantle, Kelly and Shelley Downs, Richard and Julie Downs. Also leaving behind 12 loving grandchildren and 15 adoring great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their love and appreciation to Elevation Hospice Home Care for the week of tender care, Jamie (life long hairdresser), Liz (best nurse), JJ and Lincoln (devoted ministers), close neighbors, friends and especially her "boyfriend" the Bishop, for all the time spent making our Mom feel loved and cared for.
Trudie's memorial service will be held at the Bountiful 13th Ward church building located at 1350 N 650 E in Bountiful, Utah on Saturday, April 22, 2023, with viewing from 9:30 am to 10:45 am and the funeral to follow at 11:00 am. She will be buried in the Bountiful City Cemetery next to her beloved Ralph.
