Biography

Truman Duane Sparks passed away peacefully April 25, 2012, with his loving wife by his side of causes incident to age. He was born July 8, 1923 in Carey, Idaho to George Milford and Minnie Irene Case Sparks. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Occupational Forces in Japan. He married Bonnie Lee Smellie in the Idaho Falls Temple June 10, 1952. He graduated from BYU and spent his career as a technical writer for Sperry Rand/Unisys Corp. He loved the out-of-doors, especially water-skiing and snow skiing.
Truman was a generous man. He willingly shared his talents, knowledge, and most importantly, his boat with neighbors, cohorts, and the many friends of his daughters. He took the time to instruct all persons interested in the art of water skiing. Once the individual mastered two skis, Truman quickly advanced them to the one-ski experience. He displayed the same patience on the ski slopes during the winter months. Truman presented opportunities to all who knew him.
Survived by his wife, Bonnie, daughters LeeAnn Cleverly (Brent), Karma Jean Brown, Catherine Lynne Sparks, Judy Rae Jensen (Rick). 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, sisters Marva Sparks, Venna Sparks, Ramona Hart (Robert), step-mother Muriel Sparks, step-sister Bonnie Justesen (Keith). He was preceded in death by his brother Sterling.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 4, 2:00 p.m. at the LDS Chapel located 2150 South 650 East, Bountiful, UT. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral service from 12:30 to 1:30 at the church. Graveside service Saturday, May 5, 1:00 p.m., at the Carey, Idaho cemetery.
