Ty Michael Goddard finished his mission here on earth suddenly on May 9, 2023, on his parents wedding anniversary that they now call their “Eternal Family Day”, a special reminder that their family is sealed together forever and Ty is theirs forever.
Ty was born to parents David and Lacie Goddard on June 11, 2017. So eager to start his mission here, he came 2 months early, always determined to do things his way. Ty entered this world with an imperfect body as he had spina bifida and a chromosome abnormality that made for great learning challenges throughout his life, but he had the most perfect spirit.
He spent his first 6 months of life at Primary Children’s Hospital, where he overcame many medical challenges, and anyone who met Ty fell in love with the boy with “the best hair”. He has the sweetest and most calm spirit you can’t help but love him. Ty learned things at his own pace throughout the years and he had so many people cheering him on when he was learning something new. He was the best army crawler, snuggler, hand-patter, and little noise-maker. He loved all his toys that could loudly play music and we loved seeing how smart he was at manipulating those toys. Ty also loved his dog Ellie and they had a special bond. He would giggle at his siblings and loved having his Daddy hum “Yellow Submarine" to him most nights, ever since being in the NICU. He especially loved his Momma and snuggling with her any chance he got. He loved his school drop off routine where his Dad would get his wheelchair out of the car and his Mom would get him out and put him in his chair, unlock the wheels, and roll him to her and give him a little kiss and his Dad would take him into class where he would smile at his teachers and friends and start drumming on his desk because he was so excited to be there.
Ty is survived by his Mom and Dad, sisters McKenzie and Brynlee, brother Ryker, Grandparents Dan and LeEtta Poppe, Kim and Kristie Goddard, and many Aunts, Uncles, cousins, and endless loving relatives. Preceded in death by brother Brigham, cousin Cora, and Great-Grandma ‘Nette who passed just weeks before Ty and I’m sure was waiting to be the first one to hug him.
Ty is one of the brightest parts of our lives. Initially terrified to raise a boy that required so much, we quickly learned he is one of our greatest blessings. He taught us how to love and serve unconditionally. He taught us that when we need help, there is a plan greater than we know. We may not always get what we ask for, but what we do get can be much greater. His siblings would like to add, “He was the cutest little boy ever. He would always put a smile on your face whenever you saw him.”
We want to thank everyone who loves Ty and helped him figuratively walk through his nearly six years of life. He was completely reliant on others and his extra needs were many. From pushing his wheelchair and holding his hand, to kids at school always saying, “Hi Ty!” as he passed them in the hall. Thank you to all those who talked to Ty despite him not being able to talk back. Thank you to the Spina Bifida Clinic, all those at Primary’s, and his pediatrician Dr. Sabey who helped him live his healthiest life. Thank you to his Meadowbrook and Windridge Elementary Teachers and aides, countless therapists, and Ty’s first “girlfriends” his NICU Nurses. Thank you to those on his last day who responded quickly and did their best to bring our little guy back to us. We know as hard as it is, it was his time to return home and be free of all his ailments.
