Ulysses Smith Grant, 92, passed away peacefully April 20, 2004. Born March 29, 1912, the son of Franklin Stringham and Evalyn Smith Grant in Salt lake City, Utah, the eldest of three children. He was married for time and eternity to his sweetheart, Martha Louise Fagg, on August 30, 1939 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Ulysses was a well-known local nurseryman and horticulturist, and was affiliated with the Men?s Garden Club of Salt Lake City. He was employed by the Porter-Walton Company for 42 years.
Ulysses lived a life of integrity, humility and service to his family, his church and his neighbors. He served in many callings in the LDS Church, particularly enjoying service with his wife as workers in the Ogden Temple. Ulysses was a life-long Scouter, serving in many capacities, including Scoutmaster and District Chairman, and received the Silver Beaver award.
Ulysses is survived by his sister Marion Weaver of Layton, brother-in-law Lee Porter of Bountiful, and also his four children, Joan and Jerry Silver of Farmington, Ellen and Ron Payne of Veyo, Steven Grant and John and Nancy Grant of Centerville, as well as many special grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his dear wife and his sister, Beth Porter.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Friday, April 23, 2004 at the Centerville 1st Ward, 160 South 300 East, Centerville. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and again Friday morning from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. at the church.
The family wishes to express deep appreciation to all those who provided special tender care for Ulysses during the past two years.
Due to a family member?s severe allergic reaction, the family requests those attending the viewing and service kindly refrain from use of perfumes, colognes and scented lotions. Burial will be in the Centerville City Cemetery.
