Vada Hopkins

October 24, 1925 — April 12, 2011

Vada Hawks Hopkins was born on October 24th, 1925 in Malad, Idaho. She passed away surrounded by her family on April 12th, 2011. She was one of nine children born to Abraham DeRoy Hawks and Pearl Halford Hawks. Vada grew up in Portgage, Utah and graduated from Bear River High School. She married Gordon Hopkins on December 23rd, 1947 and settled in Ogden, Utah. They were blessed with four children. Gordon and Vada moved with their family to Spokane, Washington for three years and returned to Utah in 1970, settling in Bountiful, where she live for forty-one years until her death. Vada was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She held various callings at the stake and ward level over many years of service. Her most rewarding calling was as a Temple Worker with her husband in the Bountiful Temple. Vada was an avid tennis player and won many tournaments, mostly playing with her twin sister, Veda. She loved drama and wrote, directed and acted in several productions. During their retirement years, Gordon and Vada enjoyed acting in several Utah based movies. She managed the Silver department at ZCMI for many years. Her greatest joy was holding family gatherings and cooking for her large family. She is survived by her four children, Tamara Nielsen, Sandy, Deborah King (Montie), Clearfield, Randy Hopkins (Jan), Farmington, and Greg Hopkins (Kelli), Holladay, eighteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Also survived by two sisters, Fay Morris and Veda Edman. Vada was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon and six siblings. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. , Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the North Canyon 2nd Ward Meeting House, 3350 South 100 East, Bountiful. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Saturday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch in Ogden.
