Val Daniel Wood passed away in his sleep on November 25, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on May 10, 1930 in Montpelier, Idaho to Russell and Alphia Wood. He grew up in Kemmerer, Wyoming with his 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Married his sweetheart, Beverly Smith on April 22, 1952, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
He played football, basketball and track for Kemmerer High and also loved watching BYU and U. of U. sports. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Val spent over 30 years working for the Union Pacific Railroad. He loved trains and railroad ties. He enjoyed spending time tinkering at his “lot”. He also spent many hours at his Bear Lake log cabin he built with his brothers. For years he played golf weekly with his four brothers.
He is survived by his daughters Penee Stewart (Jim), Sue Wood, Shelley Tew (Craig), sisters Paula Neil, Sherrell Preston and brother Sam, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his first wife Beverly and last wife, LaJean Fulmer and his brothers Kent, Delano and Gary.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Somerset Church, 1885 North Summerwood Drive, Farmington Utah. Friends and family may visit Friday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary 1941 North Main St., Farmington, Utah or Saturday 12:45-1:45 p.m. at the church prior to services.
