Val Suttie Tarbox

March 9, 1941 — November 24, 2019

Val Suttie Tarbox, 78, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on November 24, 2019. He was born in Murray, Utah on March 9, 1941 to George Whittier Tarbox, Sr. and Minnie Malvina Suttie, the youngest of four boys.
Val grew up in Taylorsville, Utah, graduating from Granite High School in 1959 and then proceeding to serve a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the West Central States Mission, primarily serving in Billings, Montana. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1968 with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering. That same year, on June 11, Val was married and sealed to the love of his life, Dawn Andrene Jones, of San Bernardino, California in the Los Angeles Temple. His greatest joy was his love for his sweetheart of 51 years.
Val spent 41 years working as an Electrical Engineer for Hill Air Force Base, TRW, and Northrop Grumman. He was a Program Manager for the React and ICBM Teams and was an influential part in creating the current sites of the 400 Minuteman III ICBMs that are still operated today by the U.S. Air Force. As a result of his hard work and dedication, he was able to travel around the world with Dawn and take his children from coast to coast, giving them a US history lesson along the way. He enjoyed spending time with his family—going to the symphony with his wife, amusement parks, Red Sox games, and driving to Heber City to visit Dairy Keen or Granny’s Drive In for an over-the-top shake, burger, and fries. He generously treated his family to dinner out when everyone was in town.
Val was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. His favorite calling was being a temple ordinance worker with his sweetheart in the Bountiful Temple for eight years.
Val is survived by his wife, Dawn; brother Norman (Patricia) of Taylorsville, UT; children, Renn of Grovetown, GA, Brett (Lydia) of Kaysville, UT, Alison (David) of Corona, CA, Kirstin (Daniel) of Woods Cross, UT, Erin of Tomball, TX; and fourteen grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, George Whittier Tarbox, Jr. and Lewis Russell Tarbox.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 2, 2019 at the Bountiful Utah Heights Stake Center, 33 South Moss Hill Drive, Bountiful, UT., where a viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral services. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West.
