It is with sorrow in our hearts that the family of Vance Lee Tidwell announces his passing on December 7, 2023, in Salt Lake City, Utah after his hard-fought health struggle over the last three months. As a lifelong devotee and teacher of all things history, his passing on that day of infamy seems appropriate.
Vance was born November 11, 1951, to Major (Ret.) Don Tidwell and Shirley B. Nicholl in Stuttgart, Germany. He and his big brother Terry had many adventures during their dad’s various Army assignments, later to become a caring brother to younger siblings Valerie and Travis. He was an accomplished trombonist and music enthusiast and held a lifelong admiration for his music teachers. His dad assured Vance’s early and lifelong love for the game of golf as a member of Arnie’s Army, and later Vance shared this favorite pursuit with many good friends, but most especially with Nita Varick, his friend and partner of 35 years.
Vance is preceded in death by his parents and many beloved pets. Vance is survived by Nita, son Luke, daughter Autumn, siblings Terry (Linda) Tidwell, Valerie (Kevin) Beckstead, and Travis (Tracy) Tidwell, and many loving nieces and nephews. Vance’s generosity and quiet caring leave a lasting impact on many hearts. He is missed!
A celebration of Vance’s life will be held January 20, 2024, from 2pm to 4pm at the Boulder Creek Golf Course, Boulder City, Nevada.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Three Square Food Bank or Parkinson’s Foundation.
