Vaughn Jenkins, 86, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at his home encircled by his loving family. Vaughn, and his lifelong love Margie, spent the majority or their lives in Bountiful, Utah where they raised four children. Born May 20, 1928, Vaughn was the second of three sons born to Keith and Adeline Jenkins in Rigby, Idaho.
As we celebrate Vaughn’s life, we honor his loyalty and dedication to his family. Boy Scout leader. Pinewood derby virtuoso. Little League Baseball coach of the century. Hunting and fishing guide. Waterskiing instructor for his children and their neighborhood friends. Sailboat enthusiast. History buff – many family vacations included visits to historic sites around the world.
Childhood days for Vaughn were spent on the family farm during the Great Depression. A high school Radio/Electronics class launched him into his career in engineering. While in high school, Vaughn obtained a private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying over the family farm taking aerial photographs. He entered the Air Force in 1946 with an enlistment of three years. After his discharge, Vaughn completed his Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Utah in 1954, later earning an MSEE. Vaughn’s professional career spanned many decades and he was able to earn nine patents while receiving numerous awards for his contributions to the field he loved.
While at the U, Vaughn met his lifelong companion, Margie Isbell. Married December 20, 1952, and later sealed for eternity in the LDS temple in Los Angeles, California, Vaughn and Margie were lifelong members of the LDS faith. An interest in family history and genealogical research gave them the opportunity to travel the world, visiting relatives in Finland and Scotland while retracing the locations where Vaughn’s grandfather served an LDS mission and met his wife (Vaughn’s grandmother).
Vaughn took his responsibilities as a father seriously and made certain that his family felt loved and secure. He is survived by his devoted wife Margie; his younger brother, Rex (Linda, dsd. Martha) Jenkins, El Paso Texas; and his four children Scot (Jean) Jenkins; Kirk (Freia) Jenkins; Kristi Mercer; and Steven (Carol) Jenkins. He has thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Vaughn is preceded in death by his parents, and older brother Ferrin (Neva) Jenkins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10th at 11 a.m. at the LDS Chapel located at 1250 S. Main Street in Bountiful, Utah. Friends and family may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main Street, Bountiful, Utah. Interment, Bountiful Cemetery, 2224 S. 200 W., Bountiful Utah.
