Veda died peacefully, Sunday December 7, 2008 of natural causes at the home of her daughter-in-law in Bountiful, Utah. Veda was born on April 11, 1921 in Roosevelt, Utah to Leslie Bruce Goodrich and Almira Hancock. She was the seventh of ten children. She married Frank Le Grande Smith on September 20, 1937 in the Manti Temple. Frank and Veda had two sons and four daughters. Frank died on October 19, 1961. She later married Grant E. Barnes on November 1, 1968. She loved Grant’s five children as her own. Grant died on February 13, 1999. Veda was loved by all who knew her. She was gentle and kind. She found great joy in her children, 40 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. This next year 5 more great-grandchildren will join her posterity. Veda was a devoted homemaker wherein she created a peaceful and beautiful place. All who visited her will long cherish her loving hugs and kisses. She loved to crochet and had the great privilege of making altar cloths for the Bountiful Temple. Her homemade pies were a delight to her family. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had a fervent testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ. She is survived by her children: GaNene and Keith Ford, Lona and Ken Hess, Mary Ann Smith, Tamara Bjorkman, Chad and Karen Smith, Dennis and Elaine Barnes, Steve and Linda Barnes, Gayle and Vaughn Thomas, and Dean and Jennie Barnes; two sisters: LaRene Kimball and Virginia Gilbert. She was preceded in death by her two husbands Frank and Grant, a son Dick and daughter Debra, step son Brent, daughter-in-law LaDean, her mother and father, six siblings, and 2 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday December 11, 2008 at 11:00 am at the LDS Orchard 7th Ward, 3599 South Orchard Drive, Bountiful. Viewing to be held Wednesday December 10, 2008 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brother’s Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Thursday at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.
