Velma Openshaw Hallman

April 9, 1931 — April 2, 2011

Velma Jane Openshaw Hallman passed away peacefully at home April 2, 2011 of natural causes. She was born April 9, 1931 to Joseph Howard and Lillian Jane Starkey Openshaw. She grew up in Kaysville, Utah graduating from Davis High School. She is now rejoined with her sweetheart Paul Hughes Hallman whom she married February 10, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They enjoyed the adventure of raising their three boys in Centerville. She worked many years at Hill Air Force Base and was especially proud of her missiles. She was a peacemaker throughout her life and her home was always open to everyone. Most of all she loved her family, and enjoyed laughing with them and just being together. She loved being grandma, cooking and caring for anyone in her home, and was thrilled as each new member of the family came along. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and loved the gospel and her Savior Jesus Christ. Thanks to Lawrence Christensen and many family members who have so kindly cared for her. She is survived by her sons: Pat (Ramona), Paul (Lynda), and Joe (Anita); two sisters, Maurine (Richard) Etzel and Carol Partain; 26 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Norma Joy and LaVerne, and one granddaughter Pamela. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2011 (her 80th birthday) at the Centerville Porter Lane LDS Chapel, 437 West Porter Lane (400 South). Friends may call at a viewing Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Saturday morning 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the church prior to services.
