Venna Payne Hale

July 4, 1923 — October 26, 2017

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Venna Payne Hale passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 26, 2017.  She was a gentle, kind woman who gave everyone she met unconditional love and support.
Born in Salina, Utah on the 4th of July 1923 to Charles Vernon and Selda Petersen Payne, her father died when she was five years old. She became her mother's helpmate at that tender age. Mom met her future husband Mathol Dye Hale in San Francisco during the WWII years. They married and raised seven children but Krista the youngest was always the favorite. Probably because she was unexpected, born late in their marriage and brought great joy and challenge to their lives.
Mom loved life, and loved people. She was a great listener and people of all ages were drawn to her. She was fiercely independent, loved the "road less traveled", and instilled those virtues in her children, much to the dismay of her husband. Mom loved her Danish ancestry, she loved her church, loved traveling, often said she and Dad enjoyed the planning as much as the going. She loved decorating her home and was happiest when she had a project in the making. And finally, she loved music, documentaries and a good book.
Venna is survived by her children Garlan and Karen Hale of North Salt Lake, Sherilyn and Richard Ranstrom of St George, Kendra and Michael Fielding of Roy, Joel and Marilyn Hale of Centerville, Laren and Barbara Hale of Beaverton, Oregon and Lamoin and Robinann Hale of West Valley City, and her 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Mathol, her daughter Krista and her brothers Versel and Wendell Payne, and her sister LaRae Horne.
The family would like to express its gratitude to the staff of Apple Village and to Dr. Adam Nebeker for the care and support of our mother.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 31, at 11 a.m. at Russon Mortuary 295 N. Main, Bountiful, Utah. Friends and family may visit Monday evening between 6 and 8 p.m and Tuesday morning 9:45-10:45 am prior to services. Interment will be in the Bountiful Cemetery.
