Vera Robinson Stringham died on February 12, 2010 at the age of 95 in the arms of her family. She was born on August 11, 1914 in Farmington, Utah, to Harold Hal Robinson and Nena Hazel Thatcher Robinson. She was a life long resident of Davis County and a graduate of Davis High School. Soon after graduation Vera met her husband, Golden Stringham, and they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on December 11, 1933. They worked together to raise their four children and to design and build their own home in Bountiful, Utah, where Vera has lived for over 60 years. Vera and Golden loved to dance and were members of several dance clubs and social organizations. Golden died in 1980, after a long and difficult battle with cancer. Our mother patiently cared for him in their home and was an example to all of her family of her love and devotion to our father and grandfather. During her life, Vera worked as a dispatcher for the Bountiful Police Department and for the Bountiful City Utilities Department as their credit manager, retiring from that position in 1977. She was a life long member of the DUP Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was a volunteer for Lakeview Hospital for over 17 years until her eyes began to fail. She also volunteered at the Pioneer Museum for several years and volunteered at the Golden Years Senior Center where she helped prepare lunch meals. She spent time traveling in her later years and loved to attend the symphony. Vera was a gifted cook and seamstress. She used many of these skills in her church callings and to serve her family and friends. Her home was the Mecca for all family gatherings, especially during the holidays. Vera was the matriarch of our family and taught us the value of hard work. She could often be found working in her garden and yard, which was one of her favorite places.
She is survived by her four children, Ann Bjorkman, Golda Cawley, Hazel Susan Stringham, and James Jeffrey Carol Stringham; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Delores Clark and Mary Sandberg Williams; two brothers, J. George Robinson and Hal H. Robinson. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, one granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter. The family wishes to thank Susan for her many years of loving devotion and service to our mother and also to Golda and other family members that helped care for Vera. Additionally, a special thanks to the staff from Applegate Hospice, especially Lisa and Shelby for their wonderful support through these last difficult months. Vera would have been unable to remain in her home without their tender care. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main where friends may wish to call at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service to pay their respects to Vera and visit with her family. Interment will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery.
