Violet Mae Tew Kimball

May 27, 1932 — January 25, 2025

Clermont, Florida

Violet Mae Tew Kimball was born May 27, 1932, and returned home on January 25, 2025. Born and reared on a farm near Salemburg, North Carolina, she came from a large family of 12 children, including six sisters and five brothers. Survived by two sisters, Geranium and Rosalee, and brother Jerome. She married Stanley B. Kimball in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 25, 1953. She and Stanley were an inspired team, and had four children; Chase “Kim,” Hope, Vontella “Kay,” and April; and dozens of loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Although during the early part of her marriage she was a homemaker, as her children grew, she got a degree in English and became a writer, first helping Stanley with many of his books, and then writing her own. One of her greatest achievements, besides the family she was so proud of, was winning a prestigious “Spur Award” in 2001 from the “Western Writers Of America” for her book, "Stories of Young Pioneers: In Their Own Words." She was also a talented soprano who frequently sang in public, and belonged to several opera companies over the years, even rising to the level of playing “The Queen of the Night” in Mozart’s opera “The Magic Flute.” After Stanley died in 2003, she married Howard McDaniel in August of 2014. Howard was a fine gentleman who was warmly welcomed by his new family, and his death in December 2024 was widely mourned. Violet will be sorely missed by her many friends and family.
