Virginia Mae Burtenshaw Hill, 91, died at her home in Bountiful, Utah on April 23, 2015 after a short illness. She was a kind and dedicated wife to her husband, and devoted mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a cheerful friend to many and will be greatly missed.
She was born January 17, 1924, the second of six children to John Robert and Lilly Dale Humphrey Burtenshaw in Perry, Idaho. She grew up on a dairy farm in Shelton, Idaho and attended Ucon High School where she was Valedictorian for the class of 1941. She attended Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho). On June 8, 1945 she married James Dean Hill in the Salt Lake Temple.
In 1959 she and her husband moved to Bountiful and have resided there since. Virginia loved music and was a talented musician herself. She also was a skilled seamstress and homemaker. She spent much effort organizing regular family gatherings that created wonderful memories for us.
She is a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in ward and stake auxiliaries. She served as a hostess at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and helped at the Bountiful Temple. She and her husband served as missionaries on Temple Square in Salt Lake City and many years as service missionaries at various Church properties in the United States and Australia.
Surviving are her husband, James Dean Hill; five children and spouses: Carolyn and Jim Oldham, Sharyl and Ray Malouf, Von and Wendy Hill, Michelle and Jared Cox, Janene and Don Mann; 29 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; sister, Afton Tew and brother, Bob Burtenshaw.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Bountiful 53rd Ward, 1365 North 650 East in Bountiful. Friends may pay their respects from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 30 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street in Bountiful and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, May 1, at the church. Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery.
