Virginia Hendrickson Horton

May 8, 1939 — May 5, 2018

Our loving, fun, and enthusiastic mother and grandmother passed away on May 5, 2018.
Virginia Hendrickson Horton was born on May 8, 1939 to Tom Hendrickson and Ida Miller Hendrickson in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She was an only child who lived most of her childhood in Salt Lake City. Virginia went to West High School where she met the love of her life, Dwaine Clifford Horton. After being together through high school, they got married in 1957 and started their married life in Salt Lake City.  Together they had two children, Cindy and Brent.
Soon, the small family moved to Bountiful, Utah.  Virginia and her family loved going camping to the Tetons and the Utah mountains in their trailer, where they would fish and ride motorcycles.  Many summers were spent watching Dwaine's softball games.  Virginia was a great mother and kept her family happy and loved.
As her children grew up, Virginia was often giving her knowledge and experience helping Cindy and Brent prepare for adulthood and helping them have a good start to their adult lives.   One of the best things in her life was having 5 grandchildren: Sheila, Shaida, Shireen, Thomas, and Alexis. They were the joys of her life and she was so very proud of them and all their accomplishments.  Anyone who spent time with Virginia would hear stories about her wonderful grandkids.  Everyone in the family would call her Grandma Ginny, a name which brought her so much happiness.
Virginia was a very dynamic woman.  She was a hard worker who put 100% into whatever she desired to do.  She had great creative taste and often showcased it in her home décor, landscaping, and cooking.  She had a variety of jobs and careers in her life.  She was an executive secretary, one of the first women car finance managers here in Utah, a real estate agent, and more.  She worked into her seventies, until her health finally slowed her down.
Virginia was on the West High School Alumni Association and always did whatever she could for her cherished school.  Through her entire life she loved participating in the Class of 1957 Reunion committee, helping to arrange reunions.   She helped with her 60th class reunion held this past August and enjoyed a wonderful evening with her friends and classmates.
Virginia is survived by her two children Cindy (Ahmad) Khamedoost, and Brent Horton. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren Sheila Khamedoost, Shaida (Brandon) Khamedoost, Shireen Khamedoost, Thomas Horton, and Alexis Horton.  Virginia is preceded in death by her parents Tom Hendrickson and Ida Miller Hendrickson.
In lieu of flowers, you can donate to West High Alumni Association.
A family graveside memorial will be held at a future date in Goshen, Utah.
