Virginia Hersey Heath McShinsky, 92, returned home to her Heavenly Father and her adoring husband Bob on Saturday, January 21, 2017. "Ginny" was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 14, 1924 to Apthorp and Marion Heath. She grew up in Boston spending summers in New Hampshire where the family moved in her teen years. As a young woman she loved roller skating and going to USO dances and volunteered as a plane spotter during WWII.
On June 22, 1943 she married Robert L. McShinsky, the love of her life. Their marriage was later sealed for all eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. During the early years of their marriage she worked numerous jobs to help support the family. Riding bicycles to deliver mail and supplies in the manufacturing plants in Alabama during the War and as a spinner in the woolen mills. They lived in New Hampshire until their move to Vermont in 1967.
Her greatest joys were found in raising her 7 children and grandchildren whom she taught to love books. She loved walking, reading and hiking through the forests in New England. Ginny captured her feelings and life events in writing poetry. Often she was asked to write a poem for a town occasion or when honoring a friend. Her work was featured at a poetry reading at the library in South Royalton, Vermont. She was an avid fan of her grandchildren and great grandchildren's sporting events and could be found loudly cheering them on.
She was active in local women's groups and in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving faithfully in many auxiliaries. After retiring, she and Bob served a mission to the Washington, DC LDS temple and then 5 years at the Toronto Canada LDS temple the last 2 years as an assistant temple matron.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her son-in-law Kenneth and 3 grandchildren. She is survived by her children Vivian Shaw, Robert (Debbie) McShinsky, Philip (Libby) McShinsky, Cynthia (Russell) Erekson, Bruce (Melanie) McShinsky, Melinda "Mindy" (Danny) Berg, Nathan (Mary) McShinsky, 31 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 1:00 pm with a viewing from 11:30-12:45 at the South Royalton Chapel at the Joseph Smith Memorial in Sharon, Vermont on Dairy Hill Road.
Ginny will long be remembered for her beautiful smile, quick wit, and her flirty, friendly, fun loving nature. She truly lived by the lines of one of her favorite poems, "Let me live in a house by the side of the road and be a friend to man."
