Biography

Virginia Sanders Pendleton
Our loving and cherished mother, Virginia Sanders Pendleton, died peacefully on January 13, 2013 at the age of 94.
She was born July 31, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clement and Georgia Woodward Sanders. She was the oldest of 4 children. Virginia married Kenneth C. Pendleton on April 17, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Mother was very accomplished in everything she did. She had a great love for music her entire life. At the early age of 18 she sang in the Tabernacle Choir, the Civic Opera and with several quartet groups. Mother was very creative and artistic. She was an accomplished beautician, having her own shop before marrying Dad. She was an excellent seamstress, making lovely clothes for herself and for her children. She enjoyed working with ceramics and made the most delicate and lifelike porcelain dolls. Mother loved gardening and had the most beautiful rose garden in Bountiful. She could make anything grow. Her home, both inside and out, was always filled with colorful flowers and plants.
At the age of 70, she received her own computer. She learned quickly and loved all that it offered. Mother would say that “all of my friends live here”, because she was able to talk to her friends and family all over the world.
Mother was devoted to the gospel of Jesus Christ and served faithfully in so many ways, giving loving service throughout her life. Mother enjoyed doing family history. She spent most of her life researching her family line, as well as helping others research theirs. Mother was able to be one of the very first to serve a genealogy mission along with our dad in 1982. She became a skilled instructor and helped many people with their family histories. Through the years, she created many priceless books containing histories and pictures about our family, her life, and many generations before.
Mother accomplished so much over her lifetime and was a wonderful example to her family and everyone around her. We will deeply miss her loving spiritual influence in our family. We know that as a family we will be together again forever.
Preceded in death by her eternal companion Kenneth, son Richard, parents and brothers, Lee and Reed Sanders. Survived by children: Barbara (Jeff) Wensel; K. Brent (Connie) Pendleton; Judy (Guy) Thompson of Moab, Utah; Mark (JoAnn) Pendleton; and Brenda (Craig) Buck. Virginia is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and sister Gene Call.
