A legend in Utah education as a teacher, counselor, assistant principal and principal at Bountiful and Davis High Schools, she was one of the first female administrators of secondary education in the state of Utah. She was known and highly respected by the “bad boys” as well as the academic high achievers.
Vivian Fay Edman Stapley born July 23, 1924 to Ragna Matthiesen and Charles Leornard Edman has returned to her eternal family on April 1, 2012-due to age related issues.
She married Stanley Charles Stapley on June 22, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple.
She loved unconditionally her three children: Jill Barraclough, Scott Stapley and Chad Stapley. She adored her grandchildren and followed them religiously in all their activities.
She was a long time educator having taught 22 years at Bountiful High as a teacher, counselor and senior class advisor. She was 10 years as an Assistant Principal and Principal at Davis High.
During her years in education, she brought Red Ribbon Week and the Dare program to Utah, and the A/B block used in high schools all over the state. She also helped in bringing the Crime Stoppers to the state.
Vivian served as President of the LDS Hospital Volunteer Organization where she served as a volunteer for many years.
She served in many positions in her LDS wards. She loved her church.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and all her siblings. She leaves behind 28 great-grandchildren, 8 loving grandchildren and 6 wonderful step-grandchildren. She loved them all equally and will be missed by all of them. Her children Jill Barraclough (Robin), Scott Stapley, and Chad (Teri ) Stapley will miss her positive attitude and beautiful spirit, but know that we will see her again.
She had a passion for sports and was loved by athletes and coaches at the schools she worked at as well as the schools her sons played at, Bountiful and Davis High Schools and BYU, Utah State and So. Utah University.
We would all like to say thanks to the staffs at Barton Creek and Life Care and Inspiration Hospice for the kind loving care of our beautiful, sweet mother. We will never be able to repay you for your kindness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 6, 2012 at the Russon Brothers Farmington Mortuary, 1941 North Main, where a viewing will be held Thursday evening 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Friday 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.
