Wade Allan Farraway

Wade passed away peacefully of natural causes in his home at the age of 56. Wade was deeply loved by everyone who knew him. Giving and receiving love were central themes in his life. Wade had the ability to bring people together and to help them feel understood, appreciated and accepted. He was incredibly loyal and always saw the best in others, truly listened and understood others needs. Wade's compassion for others led him to volunteer for and give to many organizations and events. Those closest to him witnessed that he would often give both generously and anonymously.
    Born in Hamilton, Ontario Canada, Wade had a love for the U.S. that led him to Brigham Young University as his school of choice. He received an undergraduate degree from BYU and later, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Tennessee. At the time of his passing, Wade was Assistant Attorney General and Director of Government Relations for the Utah State Attorney General's Office. He had worked there since 1999. Prior to joining the Attorney General's Office, Wade worked as a prosecuting attorney in Washington County.
Wade played an active role in government and approached politics in a compassionate way. He saw the potential for politics to bless the lives others and protect those who were weak and vulnerable. Over the years, he worked closely with hundreds of legislators, other elected officials, lobbyists, advocates and everyday citizens at the Capitol, where he was greatly respected and admired.
    Wade was an adventurous, eclectic and intelligent man. He was a history buff and explorer of the world. Wade's brand of travel wasn't tourism; he got in and experienced the true culture of each place. From culinary offerings to cultural perspectives he loved experiencing authenticity and diversity. Wade's keen mind remembered these experiences and he utilized them in his understanding and willingness to help others.
    As a young man, Wade loved playing hockey. In college, he was the Captain of the BYU Hockey Team. He was an avid and passionate skier and would get full value out of his season's pass. He loved spending as much time as possible on the slopes. Wade shared this love with his children and taught them both to ski with a half day on the bunny hill and then straight to the black diamond runs.
    Wade was an avid lover of music. He had a running game of "name that tune" with his interns and co-workers at the Utah Capitol. As soon as he walked in to work, he would be presented with a new song and asked to name the artist and title. Wade would always know the correct answer. He had very diverse musical interests. He went to a Nickleback concert recently; and, he actually enjoyed it. His favorite band was, without a doubt, The Who. His favorite song was Baba O'Reily (Teenage Wasteland).
    Wade is survived by his children Jordyn and Hollie (Logan) whom he shared with former spouse Rebecca Farraway, his Father Thomas Farraway (Mary), Mother Marion Hide, his sisters Thomasina Hatch (Garry), Tamatha Kliss (Ray), Emily Farraway (Joel) and his girlfriend Lori Blakesley, many cousins, nephews and nieces in the U.S.A and Canada and many friends and co-workers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the Layton South LDS Stake Center, 505 South 1000 West, Layton, Ut. A viewing for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Wednesday morning 11:30am – 12:45pm at the church prior to services.
